Past Volunteers Carrie's story

BIO:

Volunteer of the Mongh
Name: Carrie Whyte
Age: 25
From: Welington / New Zealand
Status: Currently still travelling the world

I had never done anything like this before and I knew it would be a challenge, I'd heard so many great things about Thailand and the people that live there that I really wanted to try it out.

Teaching was a lot of fun and not what I expected, I had the chance to really be creative and use my imagination when planning lessons. It was hard work sometimes but the sense of fulfillment was overwhelming and I really hope I get the chance to go back to Thailand soon and see how the kids progress.

The training really helped my confidence, and working on the English Camps made me see that if you make it fun the children do respond and learn much more.

I made lots of friends, it's easy with Thais as they are so interested in finding out about you and showing you around the place they live. The food was great but a bit too spicy for me sometimes, I never realised you could put chili in just about anything!

I really felt like I'd seen Thailand in a way tourists and travellers never do, I'm already getting itchy feet.

Carrie
